About Counselling:
Counselling provides you with a safe and confidential place to talk. With the help of a professional, you have the opportunity to understand and make sense of your problems. Together we explore whatever is troubling you. You may be able discover feelings which have been unconsciously affecting your life and preventing you from living more fully. A reliable counselling relationship is essential in helping you to gain greater fulfillment and freedom.
How Counselling can help:
Counselling can benefit people from all backgrounds. One in four people will experience some kind of mental health problem, however, research has shown that the 'talking therapies' are effective in relieving unhappiness (www.mentalhealth.org.uk). Counselling can help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself which in turn leads to a greater sense of freedom. It can be a great relief to know that you have a qualified person to help you at the same time each week. Feelings and difficulties which seemed insurmountable can be shared and a new perspective gained.
Some benefits:
Understanding yourself better
Feel less stress and anxiety
Accept the choices you make
Understand the unhelpful patterns formed in your past
Greater self esteem
Managing anger and conflict in an appropriate way
Explore satisfying ways to deal with yourself and others
How long does it take?
Sessions are 50 minutes and take place at the same time each week. Establishing a regular time and place is important as it provides a reliable framework. The length of your therapy is tailored to suit your needs and can be reviewed at any time.
What happens in the initial consultation?
Our initial consultation is an opportunity to meet and to talk about what has brought you to counselling.I can explain my psychodynamic approach in more detail and answer any questions that you might have. At this point there is no commitment to on-going work. We can decide together on a fee and a time for future sessions. If you feel that this counselling is not right for you I can refer you to someone who might better suit your needs.
"Not until we are lost do we begin to understand ourselves."
Henry David Thoreau 1817-1862
